An abundance of wildlife

A unique location on the West Pennine Moors

Throughout the years our members and visitors have been delighted by the expansive views to Cheshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and North Wales, we are very fortunate to have an abundance of wild life with over 50 varieties of birds and we regularly see fallow deer bounding across the fairways.

Our Head Greenkeeper, Chris Westwood, and his team whilst tending our magnificent course have a high regard for our environment. We manage our course with environmentally approved and sensitive treatments and they take care to protect the flora and fauna that we have around the course. Our wooded areas are sensitively managed and you will find many "Bug Hotels" that serve as important sources of food for our wildlife as well as encouraging those insects that support the growth of the wild flowers found around the course.

Peter Gavagan who is a keen local Naturalist is a regular and welcome visitor to the Golf Course and its environs. He has recorded well over 50 Bird species as well as Badgers and Roe Deer. Hidden in the woods you may hear the calls of Barn Owls, Tawny Owls and in the spring the regular tapping of Great-spotted Woodpeckers and also the Green Woodpecker. Patrolling the skies above the more open spaces you will also spot Jays, Sparrow-Hawks and occasionally Peregrine Falcons. Around the streams that flow through the course you may also spot White Throats, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Chaffinches and Dippers. In 2013 we were excited to find that a Greenish Warbler paid a visit to TGC and within hours Ornithologists from around the North West flocked to the course to record this unique event.
